| May 23, 2015

Think that grooming is only for women? Think again! Men might scoff at the idea of spending time grooming each day. It is tempting to rush right out the door in the mornings instead. However, spending some time taking care of your appearance can go a long way. Chances are that you want to make a good impression, and who wants to see your unsightly nose hairs or smell your rank body odor from not showering? Nothing says sexy like food between your teeth, bad breath, or long ear hairs. With only a few minutes spent on personal grooming each day, you can look your best.

Here are a few grooming tips for men to look good without being overdone:

Shave – Nothing says that you don’t care about your appearance than leaving your face unshaved. Having an unshaved face gives others the impression that you probably haven’t bathed in days, which will not win you points if you are trying to attract the opposite sex. If you have a beard or moustache, make sure that you trim it on a regular basis. Stray hairs can be sticking out in all directions, and they look better when they are nice and neat.

A beard trimmer is a good investment. Before shaving, wash your face with warm water to open up the pores and you can even use a cleanser to remove dead skin. After the shave, apply moisturizer to your face to keep the skin healthy. Some men prefer shaving with an electric razor or a regular razor and shaving cream. They both have pros and cons so it’s up to you.

Shower – One of the best ways to take care of your skin is to shower regularly. Not only does showering remove dirt, oil, and sweat but it also leaves your skin soft and smelling good. There are several body lotions out there for men that refresh, exfoliate, and revitalize the skin. There are also body washes that soothe tired muscles.

Still, other body washes can be used as a shampoo as well. Be sure to wash your hair on a regular basis to remove dirt and oil. If you want to style your hair, do not put too much gel on it as it can look slimy or gooey. After you’ve finished in the shower, use a moisturizing lotion or gel to soften and protect your skin, especially rough areas like the feet and elbows.

Get Rid of Unwanted Hair – One of the greatest turn-offs for women is a man that has unsightly hair on the chest and backs, long nose hairs, long ear hairs, long hair on the neck, or unibrows. Hair in these areas needs to be trimmed or removed at least once a week. Many different products can help with unwanted hair. First of all, nose and ear trimmers are relatively inexpensive. Some of them even come with eyebrow trimming combs so you can keep your eyebrows nicely shaped and remove hair between them.

For removing hair on the chest and the back, some men go with waxing but there are also hair removal products like Nair or Veet. There are also hair trimmers available for men to get rid of hair on all parts of the body. One of the places you might not think about removing hair is the back of your neck. You can get this done at barber’s shop or with a hair trimmer as well.

Use Cologne – Using cologne is a good way to smell nice. However, it goes without saying that many men overdo it on cologne so that the scent becomes overpowering. Instead of attracting people, those around you can’t wait to make a break for it. Try to not apply too much and never use it to cover up foul-smelling body odor. Take a shower first. Also, it might be tempting to go with cheap cologne but some of them create more problems by reacting badly with your skin. If you sweat a lot, consider wearing an undershirt or investing in a good deodorant or antiperspirant.

Take Care of Your Nails – Finger and toe nails are commonly neglected by men but they can make a big difference in what kind of impression you want to make. Dirty, ragged nails often serve as a keep away sign. Keep your nails cut short and clean with manicure sets. If you find that this is difficult for you to do on a regular basis, consider getting your nails professionally done. Also, men often have rough, calloused hands. Using an exfoliating scrub and moisturizing lotion will keep your hands soft and smooth. Smooth, soft hands can be especially inviting.

Brush and Floss Your Teeth Regularly – Not only is healthy teeth more attractive, good dental care is essential for your overall health. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day. Your teeth don’t have to be completely straight or perfectly white, but at least make sure there is no leftover food residue. Check for that after meals. You can also use mouthwash or breath mints to get rid of bad breath. To keep your lips from drying out, use Chap Stick but not too much to make it look like your lips are colored.

Just because you’re a man doesn’t mean you have to look ragged and unkempt. With a few simple tips, you can be looking attractive and well-maintained. By keeping up some simple grooming tips by showering, shaving, and removing unwanted hair on a regular basis, you can make a good impression.
