Every Type Of Fishing Possible

| June 2, 2015

You might think that all there is to fishing is a river or a lake. In reality there are quite a few different types of fishing approaches that people engage with. This is all of the main fishing types that you could possibly think off. All require a different level of skill and equipment, but they all have a great day out in common.

Trout Fishing

Trout fishing is one of the most popular types of fishing. A lot recreational fishermen fish for trout. The trout fish can be generally found in cool, clear lakes and streams. The trout fish are recognized by the fact that their fins don’t have spines and have a small fatty fin near its tail. They are many species of trout’s, for those people not really familiar with trout you probably thought that a trout was a trout but in reality it is not.

Trout’s are mainly found in the eastern part of the United States. The lake trout’s are found in the larger lakes in America. They have a longer lifespan than the rainbow trout, which generally live for about 7 years. The trout typically feeds on soft bodies like flies, mayflies, stoneflies and dragonflies. They can also feed on small fish if they can find them.

The trout fish are generally a bony type of fish but overall is a favorite among fish lovers. They are typically a fighting sort of fish, when they get hooked or netted they will fight like hell to get away. They are a favorite of the recreational fisherman. Because of their popularity some trout are raised on fish farms and they put into the water where people most frequently fish. It is believed that if there is an abundant amount of fish then it won’t be a feast or famine situation and over fishing will not happen.

Salt water Fishing

Salt-water fishing is another name for fishing in the ocean. The ocean is the largest body of salt water there is. There are many people who like to get the true fishing experience by fishing in the ocean. Many people are content with lakes and streams but the die-hard fisherman likes the excitement of the ocean.

Out in the ocean there are many different types of fish other than the lake fish. You can catch bass, trout, mako sharks, flounders and many others. The idea of recreational salt-water fishing is to catch the biggest fish and to get the true experience of fishing you can imagine.

Some of the best salt-water fishing is usually in Texas, Maine, Florida, Massachusetts and Alaska. These states heavily rely on the commercial fishermen. In Maine, the commercial fishing in salt water is a huge industry. Lobsters and crabs are a big import in the state of Maine. Many lobsters that are caught are distributed to restaurants and supermarkets all across the country.

In Massachusetts, the small fishing towns are dependant on salt-water fisherman to bring back swordfishes, lobsters and crabs. Texas and Florida are warm water states; the fishing industry relies on shrimp, crabs and even shark. Alaska salt-water fishing is known for the dangerous job of Alaskan crab fishing.

Recreational fisherman can get a true fishing experience from fishing in the ocean but it’s the commercial fisherman who fish hard for months at sea, they get the true fishing experience

Salmon Fishing

Salmon is a common name for many species of fish in the Salmonidae family. The trout is one of those fishes that come from that family. The salmon fish live in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. There are salmon in the great lakes and as far away as the Russian Far East where they have the best salmon sanctuary in the world.

In the Atlantic Ocean there are different species of salmon. They are the salmon, the land locked salmon and the Salmo trutta (could be classified as trout). The Pacific Ocean has more types of salmon than the Atlantic. Some of the species are the Sock eye salmon, the Chinook salmon, the Pink salmon, Chum salmon, Coho and Cherry salmon.

Salmon are born in fresh water and then they migrate into the ocean and when they want to reproduce they migrate back into the fresh water. It is said that salmon go back to the same spot they were born in to reproduce themselves. In Alaska, fisherman do “ crossover” streams, they take salmon and cross over to other streams so they can populate as many streams as possible.

The salmon is one of the top species of fish that is well sought after fishes. In the Atlantic Ocean the population of the salmon is dwindling while the population in the Pacific Ocean especially in British Columbia and Alaska is still many. The commercial fishing for salmon has lowered the population of salmon in the Atlantic. Even the sport of recreational salmon fishing is important too.

Ice Fishing

Ice fishing is the sport of catching fish with just lines and a hook and sometimes a spear through a hole in the ice on a solid frozen body of water. The idea of ice fishing is to sit crates or lounge chairs in front of a hole in the ice and maybe catch some fish. There are heated cabins available for such a retreat for yourself or a fishing party.

The best places around the world to go ice fishing are Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Germany and of course the United States mainly around the Great Lakes, Alaska and Minnesota. You will notice that these are the coldest places on the face of the Earth and the only place to truly ice fish.

The rustic ice fisherman will sit out on a crate or lounge chair on a frozen body of ice with nothing more than a heavy coat, gloves and his fishing equipment. But the men who want the experience of ice fishing without actually freezing to death choose to rent a heated cabin with the full amenities. This idea is great if you are looking for a couple days of fishing. The shelters are called ice shanty, icehouse or fish house.

Ice fishing equipment is rather different than regular fishing gear. You will need an ice spade and a saw to cut the hole in the ice. Sometimes a power auger can be used a saw is not available. There are several different types of fishing equipment.

The rods are small, light rods with colorful lures so the fish can see them more easily. There are tips ups; a tip up is fishing lines attached to a flag so when there is a fish on the line, the flag will pop up and let you know. Lastly, a spear is used to catch the fish when they are almost on the water’s surface.

Fly Fishing

Fly-fishing is becoming very popular in recent years. For those people who don’t know what fly-fishing is, it is an ancient method of fishing. The type of fish that were mainly caught as a result of fly fishing were trout and salmon But over the years more species of fish became targets of fly-fishing. For example, pike, bass, carp, redfish, bonefish and pan fish.

Artificial flies are used as bait, hence the name fly-fishing, no live bait is ever used. The flies are tied on the hook with thread but other synthetic materials are being used as well. The flies that are used can be colored because the color tends to attract the fish. The fly fishing rods are different than the regular rods, they are much longer and are lighter too. The lines on the fly fishing rod are a little heavier than the standard fishing line. The fly fishing reels are also specialized.

There are two types of fly fishing, one way is the dry way, this means that the fishing line sits on top of the water causing the fish to come to the surface for the fly. The second way of fly-fishing is the wet way. When you wet fish the fly is submerged under the surface of the water, making it a little easier for the fish to catch the fly.

When you cast off in fly-fishing is a little different than in regular fishing. There are many different ways to cast off in fly-fishing; the most popular way is called the forward cast. The forward cast is when the angler (which is you) throws the fly into the air and over the shoulder until the line is straight, and then using the power in your forearms cast the rod forward. The goal is to have a smooth cast and if you can achieve that, you will have a greater chance to catch a fish. The lines won’t be tangles and the fish won’t see anything but the fly.

Deep Sea Fishing

Many people love to fish and when you become so involved in a sport or an activity you would want to try something different. When fisherman get bored of fishing in lakes and streams they want to go into something more exciting, for example deep sea fishing. They use the term deep-sea fishing because the fish live below the photic zone of the ocean. The photic zone is a place under the water’s surface that has enough light where plants and fish can feed.

Some example of deep-sea fish is lantern fish, flashlight fish, cookie cutter sharks and anglerfishes. The photic zone of the ocean is only a few hundred meters from the surface. Humans may not be able to see but the fish sure can. Since the ocean temperature is only about 3 and 10 degrees Celsius and lacks carbon dioxide, the fish must adapt to these conditions and they do adapt rather well. That is why when you try to catch one of these fish for captivity they die extremely fast because you can’t duplicate the conditions of the ocean.

Even fish have become an endangered species. There are probably about a thousand different species of fish living in the ocean, some of them are very rare and should not be hunted. There are actually five different types of fish that are considered an endangered species and cannot be fished for. They are the roundnose grenadier, the onion eye grenadier, the blue hake, the spiny eel and the spiny tail skate. Commercial fisherman mostly catches these types of fish.

Deep-sea fishing is not just for the sport of fishing. Many researchers do some deep-sea fishing to study the various types of fish that are in the ocean and you typically do not get to see. Many marine biologists do studies on these fish in hopes to understand the species a lot better.

Charter Fishing

Many people like the idea of fishing but don’t like the idea of the work that comes with getting the boat ready to actually go fishing. There is a lot of work involved in prepping the boat and making sure everything is good to go before you set off for your day of fishing. Why go through all of that when you can charter a boat and all you have to do is show up.

There are hundreds of charter boat companies that are inexpensive. If you are going with a large group then you can keep the expense low. You can sometimes charter a boat for your self and some friends or they have party charter boats meaning that there are other people there for the same reason you are.

The charter boat takes you out on the ocean or sound for a day of fishing. The charter boats are sometimes better than going by yourself, because the captain or owner of the boat will know the best location of the fish almost guaranteeing you a catch.

There are more charter boats in some places than others. Places like Long Island, Massachusetts, Florida, Hawaii and Alaska have the most charters available. These places have a high abundance of people who like to fish recreationally. You bring your own equipment and some charters may be able to rent you equipment if you do not have. When you call for a reservation ask about rental equipment.

Boat Fishing

Some people when they go fishing they like to fish from a pier into the ocean and some like to sit on a dock and relax while they fish. But if you are looking for true fishing trip then boat fishing is the way to go. If you are looking for a relaxing trip where you can set up your fishing pole and read a book or maybe catch a nap then maybe a row boat would be perfect on a Sunday afternoon.

Maybe you want a little more of a recreational boat. A sailboat is a great fishing boat because you can go with more than one person and maybe make a little fishing party out of it. You can set the poles up and stand by and watch the fish you are going to catch. With a sailboat you are not confined to lakes and streams. The ocean is the place for you.

You may be looking for a fishing experience but are not looking to do any of the work a boat will need to get you to a fishing location. If you have a lot of people then maybe a charter boat may be good for you. You can hire someone to take you to a location where all you have to do is fish. That makes for a nice peaceful relaxing afternoon. It may not cost you so much if you have a lot of people and the charter boat captain know where the best fishing locations.

Bass Fishing

Bass fishing is actually considered a sport known for catching North American game fish known as the Black bass. There are several different species of the black bass such as large mouth bass, Kentucky bass and spotted bass to name a few. People back in the day used to fish for bass for fun on a Sunday morning just to relax and unwind. Today, it is one of the most popular sport activities around.

The people of bass fishing today have made the sport into a billion dollar industry. The bass fish is the second most popular fish to try to catch. Due to the popularity of the sport, there has been an increasing amount of gear specializing in bass fishing. Everything from rod, reels, lines, bait and even electronic fish finding instruments. There are even some boat manufacturers that have special types of boats designed just for bass fishing.

The black bass fishes are well known as strong fighting fish and even when they get hooked they fight until death to get free from the hook. The largemouth bass is a rather large fish and will put up its size as resistance. They tend to make very powerful runs in they are fortunate not to get caught.

The smallmouth bass doesn’t have the size to fight like the large mouth but they are jumpers and when they are caught they put up a very aggressive fight on the surface.

One of the hard parts of bass fishing is where to look for the fish. You have to account for certain factors when searching for the bass. Is there enough food in the location you are planning on fishing in? Is the water quality good enough? You may be able to locate some bass fish in lakes, ponds, river, streams and some creeks.
